Since my salvation in 2003, I have witnessed thousands of healings and miracles through prayer while witnessing many who weren’t healed as I had hoped. However, faith isn’t in the seen but rather in the unseen. Therefore, I will not live my faith based on what has or hasn’t happened but on what Jesus taught, demonstrated, and instructed.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was suffering from the late stages of her battle with cancer and was in the hospital; her family reached out to Olivia and me to visit and pray in person. While driving to the hospital, I kept on hearing the voice of God say through a thought, “Exit and order a strawberry milkshake.” I rebuked the thought because I believed it was all my imagination or simply a desire I had in my flesh.

However, God was determined. As He kept on repeating His instructions in my mind over and over, I continued to resist. Eventually, as we parked at the hospital, I shared this with Olivia, and she responded, “If you believe it’s God, let’s go get the milkshake.”

“Honestly, I’m not sure,” I said to Olivia before saying to God, “God, if you want us to get a milkshake, have the cafe be open and let them have shakes on their menu.” As we entered the building, we found ourselves standing in front of the cafe. It was closed, but they surprisingly had shakes on their menu. I brushed off God’s thoughts one last time before going up to my friend’s room in the hospital room. We chatted with her and her husband for over an hour, praying for her while updating them on everything we’ve recently witnessed God doing. We poured out countless testimonies, sharing miracle after miracle. As it got later, we offered to buy them both dinner at a fast food restaurant. The husband humbly accepted because he hadn’t eaten all day, while my friend surprisingly declined. As we got up to go to the restaurant, the thought about the strawberry milkshake suddenly flooded into my mind. I turned to my friend and asked, “What about a strawberry milkshake? Aren’t you craving a shake?”

Astonished, she gasped, covering her mouth, and said, “How did you know I was craving a milkshake? Specifically, a strawberry shake? I had just shared with my husband before you arrived that I desperately craved a shake. I have a major sweet tooth, and anything made from ice cream is my weakness.”

Now, feeling rather convicted by the Holy Spirit for rebuking Him earlier, over and over, I responded to her, “I didn’t know, but God obviously did,” followed by us sharing how I wrestled with the thought during the entire drive there.

We left for the restaurant, and when we returned, there were other ministers visiting. She and her husband were excited to see us return and quickly ushered us back in while quickly ushering the other couple out. She shared how she instantly felt the Holy Spirit when we first arrived and when we returned to them with her shake in hand. We stayed another hour, ate, and prayed again before leaving. She was in tears, and all smiles when we said our goodbyes. She said, “Whatever happens now, I have peace knowing that Jesus loves me and knows me intimately enough to bring me a milkshake.”

Sadly, she passed away a short time later with no physical healing but fully confident in her relationship with Jesus because of a simple milkshake.

We often miss the biggest miracles in life because we’ve predetermined what the Lord should do. In this case, the simple obedience that came as a milkshake was her miracle, a kiss from her Abba Father upon her head, saying without words, “I love you, daughter. And I intimately know you.”

Blessing!
