When I was a new believer, I worked two jobs. I worked by day as an Art Director and night as a manager at my family’s convenience store. One night, one of our regular customers walked into our store. I could see that she was exhausted and recently crying. I believe her name was Nicky.
“Nicky,” I said. “Everything okay?”
“No,” she responded. “I just spent the last few nights at the hospital. My sister was in a car accident and is in a coma. The doctor informed us that she has broken her neck and only has a 50% chance of surviving, and even if she does survive, she has a zero percent chance of regaining any movement. She will either die or remain in a coma the rest of her life.”
She broke down in tears at our store. I asked her to approach our counter and reached out my hands through the slot of our bulletproof glass; our store was in a shady area of town. I asked if I could pray for her. She agreed and I prayed a very simple prayer for her sister’s life, healing, and Nicky and her family to be comforted during this tragic time. Upon completion, I heard God say the numbers five and seven. I paused to see what else God had to say. He continued and said, “On the fifth day, her sister will wake up, and on the seventh day, she will walk out of the hospital.”
Unbeknownst to me, I had repeated what I heard out loud.
“What,” Nicky asked? “What did you just say? Is that true? Do you think God said that?”
Completely shocked by what I repeated, I replied, “Huh, I’m not sure. Let’s pray into it and see what happens.” We prayed, “Lord, please let what we just heard you say come true. Please let Nicky’s sister wake up on the fifth day and walk out of the hospital on the seventh day. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
With that prayer, Nicky left the store very ecstatic. However, I was in shock about what had happened.
A young woman walked into our store seven nights later wearing a halo neck brace. I leaned forward through our bulletproof glass and said, “Good evening. May I help you?” She responded, “I’m looking for the Christian who prayed with my sister for me.”
In complete shock, I responded, “Are you Nicky’s sister? What day is it?”
She said, “It’s day seven. I woke up five days after you prayed, as you said. I had full feeling and movement in my limbs. The doctors were amazed and x-rayed me again and again and were in complete shock that my broken neck was nearly completely healed to show just a small fracture. Thank you so much.”
After hearing that, Nicky rushed into the store and said, “You better come out and hug us. Jesus is awesome!”
Yes, Jesus is awesome, and how blessed are we to be used by him, even when we’re in complete doubt.
